Mother-daughter duo Anne Runolfsson and Tess Adams, both veterans of the Broadway stage (Les Mis, Phantom of the Opera, Victor/Victoria, and many more!), perform favorites with expert precision in a very entertaining performance!
ANNE RUNOLFSSON On a dare from a friend, Anne Runolfsson set out for New York City at 20 years of age with a one way ticket, $200 to her name and the blessing of her parents. What followed has been a lifelong career in the arts with many, many gifts. Broadway credits include: Broadway debut at age 23 in Les Miserables-where she first met her incredible musical director Lawrence Yurman, playing the tempestuous Diva, Carlotta, in Phantom of the Opera for 2 years, the deep loving heroine Roxane in Cyrano the Musical (a performance for which she was honored by the Drama League), filling in for the legendary Julie Andrews (AND Liza Minnelli) in Victor Victoria,and appearing in James Joyce’s The Dead, and Aspects of Love. On the road and regionally: The Secret Garden (Lili), Les Miserables (Fantine), A Little Night Music (Petra), Funny Girl (Fanny), South Pacific (Nellie),Showboat (Julie). On the concert stage: The Hollywood Bowl, Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall (with tenor Jose Carreras), The 02 Arena (London-with Julie Andrews), The Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), The Kennedy Center, Philly Pops, Boston Pops, Cleveland Pops, Cincinnati Pops, The National Symphony, The National Symphony of Canada, The Jerusalem Symphony, The Hong Kong Philharmonic, and the Symphony Orchestras of San Francisco, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Seattle, Indianapolis, Toronto, Milwaukee, Utah, Detroit, Dallas, Houston, Columbus, San Diego, Colorado, Minnesota, St Louis. She was a frequent guest of the late Marvin Hamlisch at many venues. As a cabaret performer she was awarded New York City’s prestigious MAC award for best female singer. Her cabaret performances include: Birdland, 54 Below, Eighty-Eights, 92nd st. Y, The Russian Tea Room, Rainbow and Stars, The Ed Sullivan Theater, The National Theater of Iceland, Chicago’s Pump Room, and Hollywood’s Cinegrill. Anne has been blessed to make music with Larry Yurman since 1989 in clubs and in the studio which includes the recording,At Sea. Alongside her daughter, Tess Adams, Anne has appeared with Marvin Hamlisch, many Symphony orchestras, in cabaret spaces, and cruise ships. Anne is married to Don Weinbach, they live in Frederick, MD.
TESS ADAMS is thrilled to return to Legacy after appearing as Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream in 2019. Tess made her Broadway debut at the age of seven in the 2006 revival of Les Misérables and worked actively as a child performer, singing as a principal soloist for orchestras such as The Boston Pops, National Symphony, San Diego Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Utah Symphony, and more, often under the baton of the late great Marvin Hamlisch. She has performed with her mother, Anne Runolfsson, all over the world––from famed New York venues such as Birdland Jazz Club and 54 Below to wonderfully adventurous places such as Estonia, Anchorage, Russia, Finland, Hawaii, the middle of the Baltic Sea, and more. Prior to the pandemic, she completed a full semester of classical acting training at the British American Dramatic Academy in London, in partnership with Sarah Lawrence College. Amid the pandemic, she competed in the Kennedy Center’s Irene Ryan Acting Competition and was a semi-finalist for Region One. She is a recent graduate of Quinnipiac University where she earned BAs in Theater and English, graduating Magna Cum Laude. There, she was the recipient of the Presidential Scholarship for merit and a member of the University Honors Program.
LAWRENCE YURMAN (Musical Director) is a pianist, arranger and conductor with 30+ years of experience on Broadway and beyond. He first met and worked with Anne Runolfsson 30 years ago on the original New York production of Les Miserables and is proud of their collaborations which resulted in many Cabaret acts as well as her first recording “At Sea”. He was most recently the Music Director and Conductor of the new musical Chasing Rainbows at New Jersey’s Papermill Playhouse. He was the music director of the musical War Paint starring Patti LuPone and Christine Ebersole as well as the musical director and arranger of the revival of On a Clear Day You Can See Forever starring Harry Connick, Jr. Larry also provided similar contributions to the B’way production of It Shoula Bee You. Additional Broadway music directing and/or conducting credits include Grey Gardens, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Side Show (1998 orig. prod.), A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, Guys And Dolls (1992 revival), the aforementioned Les Miserables (orig. prod.), Marie Christine, Arcadia (Lincoln Center Theatre) and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. He has also played and collaborated extensively with Lea Salonga and Christine Ebersole in NYC, across the country and abroad.
